Do I Need Dental Implants, Bridges or Dentures?

Dental Implants, Bridges or Dentures in Brentwood & Los Angeles, CA 90049

When it comes missing teeth replacement, there are several options available including a tooth implant, denture, and a bridge. Your dentist may recommend any of these three options depending on many factors such as:

  • The number of missing teeth
  • The position of the missing tooth or teeth
  • Condition of the remaining teeth
  • Condition of the gum tissue
  • Your budget, etc.

That said, any of these treatments can be used to replace most cases of missing teeth. So how do you pick the best tooth replacement option for you?

Teeth Replacement, The Difference Between Implants, Bridges, and Dentures?

Dental Bridges

Placing a dental bridge typically takes two dental visits. On your first visit, the dentist will prepare the teeth adjacent to the gap – on both sides – by filing them. Afterwards, he will take a dental impression and send it to the laboratory to make your custom bridge. This may take several days, so you will be fitted with a temporary bridge to protect the prepared teeth and to prevent a toothless smile.

On your second visit, the permanent bridge will be placed in your mouth, and the fit adjusted until you’re comfortable with your new set of teeth. Strong dental cement will then be used to fix the bridge permanently. This is a simple, cost-effective way to replace one or more missing teeth.

Dental Implant

Dental implants in Brentwood involve the placement of a titanium implant directly into your jawbone. The two fuse together in a few months, providing a strong support for an abutment and crown (the replacement tooth). This option provides an artificial tooth that is nearly as strong as your natural teeth. However, it involves surgery, is expensive, and recovery takes a long time.

Dentures

Dentures in Brentwood & Los Angeles comprise a set of artificial teeth fixed to a plastic gum. Partial dentures come with metal clips that attach to surrounding teeth for support. Full dentures, on the other hand, are designed to replace an entire arc of teeth, and can be supported by gum tissue or several implants placed at intervals.

Choosing a Tooth Replacement Option

Whichever tooth replacement option you choose, it is important that you get the procedure done by a skilled and experienced dentist in Lancaster to maximize the longevity of your new set of teeth. Dentures can last up to 8 years with frequent adjusting to ensure a proper fit. Bridges can last 8 to 15 years, while implants can last a lifetime with proper care.

About Dental Implants

For many people with imperfect smiles thanks to lost or damaged teeth, dental implants can restore both the look and function of teeth for improved appearance, comfort, and oral health.

Implants are made from a durable material to provide patients with a long-term solution that is easy to care for.

Advantages of Dental Implants

Implants support your natural facial structure and help to protect your oral health. When a tooth goes missing, a gap is left in the smile. This is more than an aesthetic imperfection. Other teeth may shift into this gap, causing misalignment and bite problems.

The gum left exposed by the missing tooth is also susceptible to infection. A dental implant fills in the space left by the missing tooth. It also helps protect your jawbone from deterioration.

And unlike dentures, implants are permanently fixed. When the implants are inserted into the gum, they are left for a time to heal. During this time, the implant (which consists of a titanium post) fuses with the jawbone for a permanent and reliable hold.

The Implants Procedure

The implant will then firmly root your prosthetic tooth or other dental appliance in place.

With implants, you never have to worry about slipping or sliding, taking them out to clean, or losing an essential part of your smile because you left your teeth in a cup somewhere.

Implants function much like your natural teeth. Simply brush, floss, and properly care for your implants along with your natural teeth for a healthy smile that can last a lifetime.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Implants also help to improve your ability to chew, speak, and smile with ease. Completing your smile will give you more than just a confidence boost.

It will make your daily life easier, reduce any oral discomfort or pain, and help to improve your overall health and wellbeing.

Full Mouth Reconstruction

Full mouth reconstruction refers to treatments which restore the look and function of a patient’s smile by replacing damaged or missing teeth in both the lower and upper jaws.

Also known as full mouth rehabilitation or full mouth restoration, these treatments may be used to improve an individual’s oral health prior to beginning other treatments like the placement of implants.

Because full mouth reconstruction refers to several different treatments, there is no singular process that will apply to every patient. Instead, treatments are selected, combined, and tailored to the unique needs of the individual.

review rating 5  Dr. Rostami is one of the most caring, professional and just friendly people - let along amazing dentist. What I liked most is he took a conservative approach, so while other dentists were saying I should take out my fillings for new ones, he told me at the moment they weren't necessary. I came in because of a crown adjust from previous dentist, and it turned out perfect both look and feel! Now I'm a patient for life. 🙂

review rating 5  Dr. Rostami is the most knowledgeable dentist I’ve had. He’s been my family dentist for a couple of years now. Everyone in my family goes to him and he’s been taking care of us and improving our smiles. He talks about everything that is going on in your mouth and what you exactly need. Most of the time people hate to hear what they don’t want to hear, so they complain and say oh the other dentist said I don’t need this or that. Well, his office is equipped with state of the art equipment, computers, and cameras. You can see your mouth for yourself. Top notch quality and cheap won’t fit in the same category. If you are looking for A+ dental work and perfectionist dentist, Dr Rostami is the dentist to visit. If you want a professional taking care of you I only recommend him. Thank you, Doctor Rostami for my Healthy mouth and beautiful smile.

Factors which determine the degree of treatment include general oral health, the number of teeth missing or damaged, the extent and nature of the damage, the location of missing teeth, gum health, and more.

Despite that each procedure will not be exactly the same, there are a few steps common to the full mouth rehabilitation process. We begin by conducting an exam to diagnose the nature and extent of any oral health problems.

We will then speak with you to determine what treatments will be most effective for your needs. If you lack the level of health needed to begin these treatments, we will then proceed to improve your oral health through other procedures. For example, the presence of gum disease might indicate the need for laser gum surgery.

To give you the most comfortable fit and natural-looking results possible, we carefully measure and determine the alignment of your smile. We will test the fit, color, size, and placement of your prosthetic teeth to restore function and appearance to your smile.

All on 4 Dental Implants

While dental implants are a great way for many people to restore the health and function of a smile compromised by missing teeth, there is now a revolutionary way to place up to four implants on just a single arch, helping to maintain even more of your natural smile, increase comfort, and minimize the time treatment requires. All-on-4 implants allow multiple implants to be placed using just one arch.

Tooth loss is nothing to be ashamed of and is more common than you may know. Over 35 million Americans suffer some form of tooth loss in the upper and lower jaws. But a missing tooth can do more than make you self-conscious about smiling. The gap left by the missing tooth can lead to oral health complications such as shifting teeth, infected gums, and a deteriorating jawbone. All-on-4 dental implants help to restore your comfort, confidence, and wellbeing by eliminating gaps with minimally invasive procedures.

To understand what All-on-4 dental implants can do for you, we must first be clear about what a dental implant is. An implant is a small titanium post which is surgically inserted below the gum line. The post fuses to the jawbone for a permanent hold. This provides a durable and long-term foundation for the prosthetic tooth or teeth which will be attached to the post.

With All-on-4 implants, you can get a full set of teeth in a single day. We place up to four prosthetics per arch using the latest technology and procedures. We ensure your safety at every stage by carefully monitoring your health during and after placement. You leave the office with a complete set of teeth that match your natural smile for results you can feel good about. These prosthetics are also more than cosmetic. They restore function to your smile so you can chew and speak with ease.

Your prosthetic teeth will be custom made to match your unique smile. We account for size, shape, placement, and material to give you the most natural-looking results possible.

Implant Supported Dentures

Implant supported dentures help patients by restoring the look and function of a smile compromised by missing teeth. Removable dentures cause some patients to experience pain due to shifting and poor fit. Implant supported dentures eliminate this problem by providing a permanent hold for a secure and comfortable fit.

Bar-retained and Ball-retained Dentures

There are two types of dentures that use implants for support.

Bar-retained dentures require three or more implants. A thin metal bar is placed so that it runs the length of the gum line. This bar is attached to the implants and then the replacement prosthetics are attached to the bar. Bar-retained dentures provide a securely anchored solution for missing teeth so that patients enjoy a dependable fit that helps them chew and smile with ease.

Ball-retained dentures use small steel balls placed atop the implants. Sockets are fitted to these balls to support the denture for a lasting hold. Ball-retained dentures use a ball and socket mechanism which provides a permanent fit so you never have to worry about messy adhesives used with removal dentures or the rubbing and slipping such dentures may cause.

For both bar-retained and ball-retained dentures, implants are surgically placed into the gums to fill gaps left by missing teeth. By placing the implants and allowing them time to heal in the mouth, you gain a permanent and reliable foundation for your dental appliance. Implants offer many benefits including stimulation of the gums and jawbone which promotes better oral health by preventing gum and bone tissue depletion. Implants also protect your gums from contaminants such as bacteria and debris. When it comes to the lifetime of your implant, simply care for them as you would your natural teeth through regular brushing, flossing, and dental checkups. This keeps your implants and your teeth healthy for years to come.

If you suffer from discomfort due to traditional dentures or from missing teeth, let Dr. Rostami and his expert team restore your smile with a customized solution. Call us today to schedule your next visit and to learn if implant supported dentures may be right for you.

Same Day Dental Implants West Los Angeles

If you suffer from a missing tooth or teeth, same day dental implants can provide you with a full set of teeth in just one visit. Unlike traditional methods which may take months to complete, immediate implants drastically reduce the time it takes to restore your smile.

Advantages of Same Day Implants

Same day implants minimize the time you spend at the dentist’s office while still delivering a reliable treatment for missing teeth. Implants serve to anchor prosthetics in place so you can speak, chew, and smile with ease and confidence. Same day treatment can give you natural-looking results in minimal time so you can get back to enjoying your life.

The Process

Using advanced technology and innovative techniques, we use the safest and most effective methods possible to place your immediate implants. After an initial consultation to determine if immediate dental implants are right for you, we use detailed scans and software to design implants custom-made to fit your unique smile. This ensures prosthetics match natural teeth and provides optimal comfort and natural-looking results. We carefully plan each stage for placing your implants to ensure the success of your treatment.

Traditional implants may use removable dentures during a six to eight-month period while implants are left to heal. Such dentures can rub and irritate the gums. Same day dental implants incorporate temporary prosthetics so that you never go without a complete-looking smile. And because immediate dental implants take less time to complete, you have a permanently beautiful and healthy smile as quickly as possible.
